Many different kinds of birds can copy the sounds of language. African grey parrots are the best known for this.
Every December in London, the National Cage and Aviary Bird Show tries to find the best
“talking”bird in the world. One bird named Prudle stood out among the “talking birds”. She won this prize for 12 years from 1965 to 1976.Prudle was taken from her nest * in Uganda in 1958. She was sold to Iris Frost in Seaford, England. Prudle knew almost 800 words in English.
Prudle was also the oldest bird in the world that lived in a cage. Ms. Frost took care of the bird until Prudle died in 1994. Prudle was 35 years old.
A different kind of bird, not a parrot, named Puck was tested in 1993. It turned out that Puck knew more English words than Prudle knew. Puck knew more than 1,700 words.

Are you a TV louer? Can you think of living without TV? Well, you can give it a try this week.
A group of Americans, TV-Turnoff Network *, have an idea. They ask children all over the world to turn off their TVs for a week, from April 19 to 25. They want children to watch less TV.
TV-Turnoff Network says watching TV too much can give children big problems with school, health and family. Some American scientists began a study of 1,300 children several years ago. It shows that if children watch too much TV, they don”t do well in school. When children watch lots of TV, they eat more unhealthy food. More of the children are getting overweight * and become ill more easily. And, too much TV is also bad for their eyes.
Many American families watch TV at dinner time. So they don”t talk much when they eat together. It”s bad for their family life. Also, there is lots of fighting on TV. After watching these programs, some children become violent * in real life.

London used to be
“foggy”-the “fog”was in fact smog, a mixture * of smoke and fog. In other words, it was caused by air pollution. In London, some of this pollution came from factories, but a lot of it came from the coal* that people burnt* in their houses to keep warm during the winter.
